Today was busy preparing for our next excursion starting tomorrow. We are catching an early bus to Oruro, then getting the train to Uyuni. That's going to take all day.
Then on Wednesday we start the 3-day tour of the Salar, or the Salt flats. It is one of the most recommended must-see attractions of South America!

I can't say what the Internet access, or my photo uploads, will be for the next week.
Today we walked to the store, all by ourselves, and got the last few items I needed to make some traveling snacks.
I nearly got hit while crossing the road.
Then we successfully navigated the streets again to meet Dave and Stacie for lunch. It was a 3 course meal for $3.
We were so full, and full of confidence in city navigation, that we were sure we could get back home. Just take the "M". We saw M coming, flagged it down and jumped in, hooray! Now just wait for our street.
But first through the market. Ok, fine.
Then through a different street. Then leaving the city, and now we're at the airport.
Hmm, by this point we know we're on the right route, going the wrong direction. No big deal, it's a route, we'll ride it out. Out .... to the ghetto!!

I kept thinking, we'll circle back soon.
Our visual aid for direction is the Cristo statue; it should be high uphill and to our left from the house. We kept looking for it to get a sense of our location, and there it was, waaay down there to the right. Bad.

I did attempt to ask the driver if we return to the city. He confirmed, and then others on the bus laughed. That felt great, who knows what he said. Anyway we just sat tight, and rode the bus all the way out to the country, up the mountain, and to the bus parking.
We are the only ones left, the driver parks, turns off the engine, and looks at us. Really? My Spanglish inquiries earlier didn't clue you in that we're lost? So basically we catch the next M pulling out, and take it back into town. Ugh, worst $0.75 I ever spent!
That got me crabby, since it was an extra 2 hours out of our way, and then the driver wouldn't give me change for that ride. Grrrr, Bolivia!
And it rained on our laundry.
And I kept tripping on things.
And I have a weird throat thing going on, and WebMD definitely eased my mind ...
Anyway I'm going to sleep now, I'm glad this day is over
But before I go- Name that Fruit!
Everything gets a point for kumquat! That was just an easy one to set you up for today's extremely hard one! Who can tell me what Casie is holding?

ReplyDeleteFirst off, I agree with Emma I'm glad you are still alive! Second the street art is cute. Third the fruit does look like something you would find in a fig newton. Fourth I hope the trip to the salt flats is totally all fun! Last and probably least I miss you both and send a hug. Mom

Hi
DeleteWe'll be home before you know it!
Other then the fact that we wasted like $0.60 on the "unwanted" bus ride and it was a tad scary, it was interesting seeing the side of Cochabamba that we would otherwise have not seen.
ReplyDeleteTuna! O tunta, I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteYou're soo close!
